first six string

well i broke down and bought a new fener style neck with tuners for 30.00 shipped. figured the tuners would be worth that alone.  stared at it every dayin my shop, then found the perfect box.   decided what the heck buid a 6 stringer.  after carefully measuring and laying out neck pocket, i carefully started  to cut.  everything fin perfect.  all my careful work was rewarded with a perfect pocket.  then i sat back and about died from the horrific sight in front of me.  i cut the pocket on the wrong side of the lid.  would be great for a left handed guitar, but i had a right handed neck.  so i did what any quick thinking CBG'r would do. went inside and ordered a left handed neck. i'll just set this box aside and wait till the neck gets here and coinue with the klefty like i originally planned(yea right) thats what i told my wife anyway.  till then i'll do a couple 4 stringers tomorrow

Can't say I've never done that. When I built the first version of my 6 string, I cut the pocket on the box on the wrong side (fortunately not the lid) but the effect was the same. Gotta hate when you pull a bone-head thing like that.

Advice: mark everything you can when you can.

  • We've all done this at least once.

  • my first build was upside down by accident, I think it adds to the charm of it .....no not really but I went with it anyway.
