When is a box, not a box?

Don't laugh too much, then again, why not? Here is something I am thinking, If you find a large box, like an old fruit box or tea chest that is too large to use for a guitar and is most likely only good for storing stuff in or is damaged to some degree, however, has good age, printing, character and usable timber, is it acceptable to use it to make a smaller box or boxes suitable for guitar? It's still found items is'nt it.

  • If you look at the old pictures and illustrations from the old days not all the box's were cigar box's. I think the idea is to use what you got.
  • I'm thinking of doing a bass with an old container that chocolate orange slices came in... It has a nice tapered shape at one end and a blunt, bulb end at the other... Too bad it's only plastic... I'm thinking about using it just as a form to build a body. I'll post pictures if it comes out...
  • That's thinking outside of the cigar box.To me the coolest thing about these sorts of instruments is that anything goes. "Why not?" seems to be the only rule, if there are any. Wait. There are no rules.
  • Sure.

You know, we don't really grade you much in the 'Found Items' category on the scoring sheets. 'Found Items' counts for only 10 percent of the score, so you should be ok.
