Strung up my very 1st CBG last night. Considering the fact that I know nothing about everything it seemed to go OK. However: pretty sure I need something to add tension to my 2nd string as it seems loose on the nut and has a pronounced buzz. I tried a larger nut and restringing that string to bring it down further on the peg all to no avail. Where can I get an education on string trees?

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is that the shape of the nut may not be quite right... the strings eight be making contact with too large an are of the nut and are buzzing as a result. They could even be rattling against the threads. I have to admit I've never used a bolt for a nut, but my golden rule would be that the string want to rest on the smallest possible point, right where 'fret zero' would be.
Good luck!
I have done a couple things: Get some really small (#4?) wood screws. You'll need 2.
I have used a strip of the stainless off of a windshield wiper (Drill 2 holes for the screws, place the screws between the strings.
Or, I picked up some small brass tubing, same thing.. drill 2 holes, place it about 1/2" behind the nut and screw it down.
You can also just use pan-head screws, one on the outers, but you'll need 2 for the center string to keep it from falling off the head... (about 1/4" apart, make the string zigzag slightly).
Looking for pics...
They're a little out of focus, but you should get the idea...
Thanks to all for the input!
My guess is you don't have enough string break at the nut...you need downward pressure along with other things mentioned here.....
curtain eyes are good and reliable,
other options can look better in my opinion
Here's an idea for a string tree...drill hole through a coin, insert screw, drill hole into headstock, install. Can use any coin, even a penny, which is cheaper than traditional trees.
