First CBG in Progress

Working hard today. I've done alot today,... I've shaped the back of the neck, I've dry fitted the neck to the box, added extra bracing on the inside of the box, drilled for sound holes and sound holes (candle cups) were added and glued in.

  • Well Everyone,...Here are some more pictures of the box. I've got so far 2 coats of Tru-Oil on it and I've discovered that it is Curly Cedar. I'm still waiting on my Fretmarkers and side dots to come in. I've already cut for the frets on the fretboard, and as soon as the markers come in and the side dots, I'll be finishing her up, and take more pics to show you all. See ya then

  • Thanks Dianne,
I haven't worked much on the CBG today, so I don't have pics to show. But,.... It's the weekend and I'll be working more. I do have to wait for the fret markers and side dots to come in so unfortunately, I won't be able to finnish it this weekend.

  • Michael,
I'ts not so much the neck needed strength, It's the box that needed it. The wood is realy dry and fragile.

I love the neck, looks very strong. I'm just wondering why you added extra bracing, with the thru neck design, and a nice one like you made the box is really just hanging on for the ride and has very little added stress to it. If you can try to keep the reinforcements from contacting the soundboard (top) so you get the best sound your box is capable of. Nice work so far!
  • I think the neck Marie made looks great, very nice work and the clearance from the top looks good. I don't think the small bits of wood she added will effect the sound in this case, should be a good one! Those old solid wood box's can be nice.

Mike, I think you might be right. If the neck was clearanced just enough to not touch the the top lid at all it could be a resonating monster.

  • Very nice build you have there Marie. Im very impressed with the neck through design. Ten times better than the "prototype" I built the first time around.
  • Your pictures have been very helpful. Fantastic work.
