What is this end pin jack used for?

Can anyone help? I have had given some electrical guitar odds and sods and amongst them are a couple of what I think are acoustic end pin jacks, one gold one chrome but otherwise they are identical. I would like to fit one to a single pickup on one build and one with a piezo but this is something new to me and I rank with the worlds worst when it comes to electrics. This is what I have a pair ofWhat does the jack fit into? Is this a standard size? Can one be cut off and used with a single coil and what other bits do I require bearing in mind I have a very limited budget? I also have a pre-amp with Belcat EQ-7545R that might be of use?

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated, all the best, Chris. :)

  • Yes, but I think there are many others here who can give you way better instructon on this than me.

    • Thank you Phil, all the best mate, Chris. :)

  • This 1/8" jack fits into a preamp/eq that is mounted in the side of the instrument.  Your pickup is also wired to it to comprise a "pickup system."  Often, the endpin jack comes with the preamp/eq but sometimes they aren't as nice as the ones you have, especially if they are the cheaper Chinese ones. Now all you need is the preamp/eq, a pickup, and a battery and you will have an "active" pickup system for your instrument

    • Hi Phil, thank you for the help, I would like to know if the red and white wires from the pre-amp to the jack socket can be pulled out and swapped over or are they soldered on, the pre-amp looks like this305940608?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024305942017?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024305942985?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024305943527?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Could I cut the red and white wires on one of the jack's and solder to a single coil and pots? If so which wire goes where?

      Thank you, Chris. :)

    • Stick a guitar cable (1/4 plug) into the jack. The tip of the plug will touch metal that goes to the lead wire. The other wire will be the ground.

If you're not sure, you can always get some of those alligator clip lead wires (Radio Shack has them) and hook up things temporarily to test them out. If the circuit is correct, it will work. If it's not correct, it won't.

Sketching out a little wiring diagram can help with visualizing how the current is flowing in the circuit and therefore, how it should be hooked up.

    • Thank you Skeesix, I will try that out. What pots do I need to wire to a single coil? If I purchase a A250k volume pot and a B250k tone pot and a capacitor a single coil pickup with the end pin jack above have I got every thing I need? All the best mate, Chris. :)
