three leads on a mag p/u

I found a couple of magnetic pickups at a garage sale for next to nothing but they have 3 wires on them. I have only worked with P/U's with 2 wires. What's the 3rd on for?

    Thanks...that's what I thought. There's a green a red and a black. These kind of look like Tiesco type pickups. There chrome and have a slotted screw at each string position. Thanks for the info!!!

    If they're color coded, a green lead might be a dedicated ground to the shell of the pup. I had a very basic Tiesco style pup recently like this. Just connect it to the ground on the back of one of the pots and you'll have nice hum free operation.
