Sorry for the delayed response. I installed the knob and it worked for 2 days. However there were some issues. First, when switching from 1st.to 2nd pos there was a loud cracking noise. As I went through the positions the vol got louder, but the distortion increased. Like it should. By the 5th pos it was crazy. Good. But I had to turn the vol down as I increased the settings. Thanks to all of you who contributed your ideas and schematics. I am going to take the guitar apart and start over. I know a guy who is good with sort of stuff. I'll go see him. I'm sure I did it wrong.

What pickup were you using? Piezo's can cause popping issues when switching, especially using a piezo with a magnetic pickup because of impedance mismatch.
Louder volume with increased distortion is the way those things work. Many people use a distortion/overdrive pedal at the low settings and use a boost/volume pedal to crank the volume or the volume knob on their amp if more volume is available.
I am using a magnetic soap bar. I saw a video on you tube by Shane Speal where he installed a psycho knob in a CBG. He made it sound simple. As far as I can see on the video he didn't use any pedals. I must have wired it wrong.i am a novice at this electronics thing. I don't understand why it worked when I first plugged it in, then it stopped working? I will have someone who knows what he's doing look at it. Thanks for your help

It may have been a problem with a chip or other component. Hope you get it sorted out.
