Ok, a buddy of mine is having me build him up a cbg. He's pilfered some parts and wants a pup in it. I've done one before with a single mag using the kit I got from gitty. But this one, he's got the pickup with the black and white wires on it, and then two loose pots. I don't know what is to what, they donj't have any markings on them. Far as I can tell they look the same. So my question would be, where in the string of things would I solder them in? I mean, I have the input jack and the pickup. It doesn't make sense if I just string them together that they would work, but this is why i'm here...to ask questions.

It's weird, the kit I got from gitty didn't have anything that connected to the bridge. If I recall, it was already wired up but like I said, nothing going to the bridge. If you use a wooden bridge what good does it do to run a wire to it? Maybe I'm not seeing it. That seems rather likely...
the earth link to the bridge is to earth the strings. on a wooden bridge, no, that would not help. usually on cigar-box guitars, the easiest spot to earth the strings is at the tailpiece, or wherever the strings are fixed at the tail end.
people are great aerials - ever improve tv reception by holding the antenna? this means you induce noise into the pickup by being near it, or by touching something conductive near it, i.e. the strings. if the strings are grounded, when you touch, them so are you. no noise from you.
this only applies to magnetic pickups. if you're using a piezo, you can ignore the earth wire to the strings.

hey mike,
usually on a single coil the black wire would be the start wind, so usually the colour you wire to earth, usually straight to the back of the volume pot.
the white is your hot wire and goes to the end lug on the volume pot opposite the earth connection, and also to to the tone pot.
the wiper (centre lug) of the volume pot goes to the 'tip' lug on the jack, and you run an earth line from the 'ring' lug of the jack to the back of the pots.
easier to understand when you see it really.

Mike: I've posted some wire diagrams on my site, and you should be able to take it from one of the diagrams. http://totalrojoguitars.blogspot.com/
