Hi all, I am having trouble finding a schematic. I am wanting to use a piezo under the bridge, a single coil at the neck, 3 way switch, 1 volume, 1 tone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, what size capacitor would be recommended for such a setup? Thank s in advance.

  • Instead of a 3 way or a blend pot, could you just put a volumne pot between the piezo and output jack, and do same for the mag pup, just wire it straight to the output jack with a volumne pot, then you could mute one and go full on the other, or anything in between???
  • Thanks for all of the advice, I did as Uncle Toad suggested and added a second volume for the piezo. Had to do a bit of rearraging the layout of the pots and such, but I think I am going to be more than pleased.
  • Maybe one of these might help.  Came across when searching for a diagram for myself.

  • If you look in this artec sound pdf you just substitute the piezo for the bridge pickup

    http://artecsound.com/wiring/wiring_book01.pdf

page 9 if the 3 way is a Les Paul type toggle

page 11 for telecaster type 3 way.

If you are using a single coil pickup generally people use 250K pots http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Electronics/Pots/w101-controlpots.html

Pots also come in A/audio/log as one type or linear/B type as the other. Both will work but personally I prefer A/log for volume as you get the volume change over a wider sweep of the pot dial (the output graph follows how the ear perceives sound). A B/linear pot gives all the change over a much smaller part of the dial (some players like this so they can change volume quicker if playing live).

Cap values - single coil 0.022uF :Humbuckers 0.047uF.  These will have no effect on the piezo tone for that you need to add a preamp EQ or check out this thread - Glenn Reither managed to work out how to do a passive tone for piezo http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/passive-tone-control-for....

  • I've only used a single piezo under the bridge no other controls...best of luck ..hopefully someone else has more info
  • I saw something like this the other day...will look for it. I think it was on stewmac.com. Lots of good schematics there If you dig. I am about to do something similar with a disc piezo and a pickup. But, instead of a 3 way switch I am going to do a Blend Pot, which can be either all pickup, all piezo, or any blend of both. Stewmac.com has explanation of blend pots also. Tell me if I am missing something, but I think it gives you everything the 3 way can and more. Keep me posted.
  • Seymour duncan has a lot of great wiring diagrams, as does ted crocker in this discussion group. I recommend that you work a separate 500k-ohm pot between the piezo and 3-way to ensure you can balance the mags and piezo. Because of impedance differences that seem to have no simple explanation(I have searched for countless hours and still have no understanding) one is likely to overpower the other.
