4 conductor humbucker color codes

If this has been discussed before please forgive me. I searched but couldn't find it. I bought a humbucker online and discovered when it arrived it is a 4 conductor pickup. It didn't come with any info on how it's wired. I figured the color code must be standardized so checked online and discovered there is no standard method. It seems every manufacturer does it different. This is a cheap Asian pickup by an unknown manufacturer. Is there any way to figure out how the pickup is wired internally without taking it apart or trying every possible combination and seeing what works? I tried contacting the seller to get this info but was unsuccessful.

  • The four-wire setup allows for either standard or coil-tap wiring. We can assume you're not doing the latter, but instead, just wiring up "normal".

Two of the colored wires should already be twisted together at the tips. If yes, leave those as is, and add a dab of solder to that point to be sure they stay together. Then wrap with a little electrical tape to isolate from making contact anywhere else.

The other two colored wires are your positive and ground leads. Positive to lug 3 of your volume pot, ground to the back of the pot (along with the bare braided ground wire...yes, there are often two ground leads on a pickup.
