Looks good for a first attempt. Reworking it with a longer, narrower box looks like a good plan. I brought back a fairly long and narrow Padron cigar box with the intention of building one. This Pardon box is 10.75" x 6" x 1.75", which is still like 1/2" too wide, so i was planning to shave the sides of the top for sound holes like you and Diane in Chicago have done. Still have a few other projects in queue before I get around to a Cigar Box Fiddle. It would have a higher priority if I could play a fiddle.
Anyway, I thnk you did a good job. Congratulations.
Volume and tone are actually quite nice. I can't really play the thing.... I make noises that sound vaguely like certain Christmas carols....
The tailpiece is actually attached rather crudely at present. A piece of bicycle brake cable knotted around a brass screw into the tailpiece.
As well as it turned out, I'm considering using another box with the existing hardware. The box is too short and too thick. As a result, you can't really hold the thing properly, and the break angle of the strings from bridge to tailpiece is too steep.
I'm in the market for a longer box of high quality.
