Now that i have the ball rolling and have a 1 watt amplifier circuit board with a set gain of 50 (adjustable input attenuation) in the post on its way to me . Can anybody recommend a on / off toggle switch / potentiometer please

Thank you Darren.....

  • I'm assuming it's an LM386-based amp. IF so, they usually use a 10k pot, smaller than the average guitar amp, but it's a different critter.

That's an assumption for the time being.

Once you know what value pot you need, you may be able to find a pot with a switch built in...they are not as common as they used to be, so knowing the needed value is almost a necessity before any suggestions can be made. I don't care for the combination switch & pot, except for the type used for guitar tone/phase etc. For power, that's too easy to put in the wrong position while playing. I'd rather have a separate switch. I prefer slide switches because the contacts wipe (less likely to get tarnished, oxidized etc) with each movement but they are uglier and harder to mount.
  • Thank you very much jules its still all sinking in why is there not enough hours in the day...

I've used www.axetec.co.uk before for volume pots for guitars and they are good products at reasonable prices. If you click on 'electrical' on the left hand menu, you'll get a list.
p.s. if you put the question on the Nations front page forum, everyone here will see it and your response should be much better. Good luck matey.
