Hard tail bridge

I managed to acquire some electric guitar necks, and I'm tempted to make some 6 string CBG. The scale length is 24.5 inches. If I use a hard tail bridge, where would I place it? My intention is to make the overall guitar fit the 24.5 scale by making it maybe 24 inches long with the neck set in about 2 inches. I think that to get the proper intonation on the strings, I should let out the adjustment all the way, and then use that as my 24.5 measurement. The only problem I see is that if I have to release tension on a string during set up, I won't have any room to do so. I'm thinking that I can use an existing guitar pattern and make some subtle adjustments from there.

  • Stewmac.com has a fret calculator page that also gives info on bridge placement for different bridge types, including hardtail styles. If you enter the scale length, etc to the calculator, the resultign chart has a section at the end that gives this info.

  • It's a fall/winter project

  • Let us see how you get along with the project. Have fun!

  • Put the saddles half way of the screw. Then messure the distance from nut to saddles and make that 24.5. Or half that from the 12th fret to the saddles. Btw are you sure of that scale lenght? It seems a bit short. A strat is 25.5 and a Les Paul 24,75.

    • Thanks for the info. Yes, I mis-spoke. It's a standard Strat 25.5 inch scale neck.
