So, I'm about to start installing the "guts" from the Strat knockoff I bought into my cigar-box 6-string.

I notice that the plastic pickup-holding plate on the Strat has the interior lined with what appears to be aluminum foil.
I doubt this forms any part of the ground system, and I suspect it's there just for shielding; those straight-wound pickups are known to be sensitive to interference.

It would be easy enough to apply some heavy-gauge foil to the inside of the lid.... Anyone have any insight on this?

  • Yes, that would be some shielding. The ground should be connected to the shield.

Aluminum foil should work. You can spray one side of it with some Super 77 or other spray glue (do it outside, not good to breathe). Copper foil is another option.
