Lots of stuff works. Eyelets (like used in shoes), pop rivets with the center nail thingy knocked out work the best in my opinion. Get rivets that have a little longer shaft on them so it will help them to resist the tendency to lean when the string pulls against it.
Nipples from bicycle rims work good too. Lots of them on eBay.

Pop rivets with the nail removed work for me, get a pack of various sizes..use two rivets for each string

I just got some last night. They work great! Thanks for the advice
My franken dulcimer has the plastic tube off stripped electrical wire - threaded onto the string.
cut a slot with a hacksaw just in front of your string holes and cut a piece of coat hanger to fit . done
