I don't know old guitars all that well, so I was curious what made this one worth 3 grand.

Not necessarily junk, but unappreciated in their day. Jimmy Page made the lowly Danelectro desirable, the old Blues players made the Oscar Schmidt Stella an icon, Paul Mcartney's Höfner bass, John Lennon first guitar, Gallotone... Johnny Winter played a Firebird. Manufactureres figured out pretty quick that connecting famous players with their guitars equals $$$.
Happy Holidays. Enjoy.

That's a mid 60's Gibson Firebird. $3000 is a pretty typical price for one. Most Fenders and Gibsons from the 60's and older are sky high.
The funny thing is Gibson considered the Firebird to be an economy model during the 60's. They sold them to compete with the Japanese Tiesco's that were selling like hotcakes in department store catalogs
