I don't remember where I read it on here, but someone wrote that it is good to leave a space between the neck and the lid when putting together your guitar. I was planning on glueing it down, but not now. It has greatly improved the sound out of the Cuban Cohiba box guitar I am working on.

On the one I am building now, I left about an 1/16 - 1/8 gap between the neck and the lid, the whole length internally. I notched all the way around the neck where it goes into the box, so that it fits nice and tight and cannot move. Its attached at the other end with screws from the hinge tailpiece and eventually glue when I finish it. I made a small reccess for the piezo and it is siliconed down to the neck, facing up, directly under the bridge. The bridge is laid out to be about a third of the way up from the end. Right now I am trying to make a bridge and a nut out of deer antler, hopefully they help more than hurt the sound cause I think they look cool. I'll post some pics tonight.
for the best acoustic volume/sound, I've found between 1/3 to 1/2 the box length from the tail is idea. If you're going to go electric, placement isn't as critical, but for design reasons, I like no less than 2 inches from the tail of the box.
just some ideas,

If you plan well enough in advance to plot out the length of the neck, the bridge placement, and how you attach the neck to the lid, you can get some pretty good acoustic sound out of it. I tried one, but I ended up with the bridge too far towards the tailpiece, and it sounded better, but probably not as good as if I had the bridge/saddle located over the part of the box that is over the space.
