I found a few "junker" guitars at a local music shop, and I bought them for cheap and stripped the necks and pickups off them. Is there any easy way to test the pickups to see if they are working properly?

My brother gave me his old guitar that was siting in the garage forever gathering moisture, it used to be a smoking guitar with great sound, Anyhow, I brought it home and tried it....no soap. It sat around for a while until I one day started to strip it down and I was going to rebuild it. Well.....needless to say, it now lives in two didley bows and my parts been and some of my cbg's. I have stripped that thing down to bare. I might rebuild it one day. It must had just been the switches that had bad wiring or a short, because the pickups worked fine after testing. I think they can take more abuse than we think. They are really just magnets with wires wrapped around them.
Before you strip them out of the guitar .... plug in and tap on them with something metallic. If you got noise , you got a working pup.
After, plug a cord into the amp and touch the pup leads to the other end. One on the side, the other on the tip. This alone should create enuff noise to check ... if you get nothing, tap to be sure.
