  • That's great! I've got some of the same boxes and was thinking of doing that as well.

Here's one I made from Brazilian cherry for the uke below.

  • I go the most basic design I can think of - a piece of wood with a hole for the strap button -with a screw into the neck in the box. and then string holes close together just above the tope edge of the box for clearance - see my pics for good examples - I am happy with the stability, just not crazy about how it looks yet. Tiny's version is excellent.
  • I generally use flat pieces of brass, aluminum, or even stainless steel. Drill out appropriate-sized holes for the strings, a couple for wood screws to secure it to the back of the guitar.
Be sure to de-burr all the holes.
  • Looks like I'm having picture issues. Check out the pictures on my page for an example.

This is half of a "Bulldog" style paper clip. I think its made by Boston. It drills easily but can be bent (could be a good or a bad thing). They come in different sizes. I'm not sure what this one is...might be a 2 1/2" clip. It came on a stack of papers from one of my schools' pricipals. I was never so happy to get so much paperwork! I also do a block of wood with how ever many holes drilled in it and then screwed into the end of the box.
  • The only one I have made from scratch (other than just wood) was out of a flat brass, It was a very simple one. Cut bend and drill.
