There is a large Christmas ad prominently displayed on the home page of this website which reads, "Santa is mailing a large stack of C.B. Gitty gift certificates this week. (If you want one, tell your WIFE.)" (emphasis added)
I realize the members of this site are like 95% male, but really - way to make the female members of this site feel excluded. Not to mention people who don't have wives.
This isn't the 1950s - the women's revolution happened decades ago and nowadays there are more single people than married people. http://nypost.com/2014/09/09/single-adults-now-outnumber-married-ad...
I'm really disappointed to see this kind of sexism on the Cigar Box Nation.
I would like to see this offensive ad removed immediately, and replaced with something more suitable.
A screen shot of the ad is attached.

It does remind me of the Progressive insurance TV ad where the announcer is saying "women don't have jobs" , except they are joking.
I see. So this was actually a brilliant add campaign.
First you set your demographic to only those who have wives.
Then you further narrow the field to only those who's wives will contact the advertiser.
Now everyone knows wives like to spend a lot of time with their husbands. Those who build CBG like to spend a lot of time in the shop. Thus having angry wives wanting to spend more time with their significant other. Who are not going to contact the advertiser.
Tell your family
Tell your friends
A Gitty Gift Cert
And their shopping ends
BOOM. Fixed. :)
it might have been better worded like tell your love ones, partner etc.
but honestly I dont see it as offensive some folks need to to move on and get this narrow vision out of their head.
if it has said tell your husband blah blah I wouldn't give it a second thought.
does it matter no.
Sorry, but things won't change unless you challenge careless, if well meaning, wording like this. It's not really a matter of being offended, just nudging attitudes in the right direction when you have the opportunity.
Well, maybe I'm just old and sexist but I read it and didn't give it a second thought and I usually pick up on that kind of stuff. Sometimes I think political correctness has watered things down to absolute BLANDNESS - my tastebuds are old - they need spice.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!! See you on the flip side!!!
Did you write to Ben about it? I'm sure he would be open to your suggestion.
I wrote and created the ad. It was tongue-in-cheek. Got lots of positive feedback. It has been removed now.
Just added some new plans to the archives.
I was totally hip to the gruve
But i understand ya have to do wat ya gotta do to apieze the masses
If it was meant to be tongue in cheek, it wasn't translating.
Thanks for the support everyone, and thanks for removing the ad.
