Where is a good source for materials and tools, such as fret wire, tuners, etc. and quitar buiding tools. I think I would like to get a fret saw - I didn't do very well at getting the frets straight with the coping saw...

I was looking for a good hard material for the nut and the bridge -- like a hardwood -- when I heard that some big guitar manufacturer uses bone. Well, my dog chews on bone regularly -- so I took one of his. I cut it, filed it and sanded it. It works great. Though it smells like a dentist drilling when you saw it. So one answer to the question of a good source for bone and nut material would have to be a dog, butcher, or pet store.
Af for me....frets? If I want frets, I will play my real guitar....I like the idea and sound of no frets...but, if you want a cool fret wire, get some thin copper wire and glue it in.....it looks cool as all get outl, and it is cheap. I can get fret wire at my local music store, but the more I build, the less I want frets.
I just did a second rate job trying to cut fret slots with a coping saw too... no bueno. I'll definitely be tryin to find a new way of doing this, maybe thinning the blade on a mitre saw. I think that sounds like the best option so far. Although it might be cheaper to go Paul's way and keep my mitre saw unaltered.
I'll second what Paul said.Every order I've placed with Stew -Mac has been handled in a pro style , very well done.Their fast on processing and delivery.
I recommend Stew Mac to anybody
I'd show you the miter gauge I made, Simular ti Wes's but I just ordered a Japanese Fret saw from Stewart-MacDonald's store. Now I will have to modify my gauge to fit the new saw and depth gauge. My Christmas present to myself.
I have ordered many items from S-M and have been very pleased so far.
Other resources: ebay, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight Tools, Woodcraft (specialty woods), Ace, Junkyards/lumber salvage. Also look on the Nations' groups: Building a CBG 101 and Secrets of the CBG underground.
