Are you going to build 3 stringers only?

For the first few yes 3 string only

If only making  those, just split it in half. Your kerf will probably be between 1/8 to 1/4 depending on the blade used. Threes don't really need to be 1 1/2 wide. If you wanted to build both 3 & 4, then you could also cut it at 1 1/2, and the other width, would still work for 3's. But it is up to you. Yes 36 length is okay.

you could get away with it. I had a piece of mahogany that was only1.25” and it worked out well. Took me a bit to get used to it.

My Kay 6 string is 1 15/16 at the nut, and 2 1/4 at the end of the fret board, going towards the bridge, so it will work. So even 1 inch would work.
