im still trying to work out exactly what i want.

anyway, the box i picked up is mahogony. i cut the neck/ head stock out of mahogony. i used corrion for the floating bridge and the nut. if you zoom in you can see i used a triangular file to file markers on the side of the neck so i could see them.

i used a dulcimer neck as a template for scale length. its pretty cool.

im going to start another one in a few days that i think is going to turn out real well. im going to use curly maple and cut the neck and head stock out with a cnc.

  • That is a really nice build. Hope you have fun with it.

  • It feels really good when you string it up for the first time and twang away on it, doesn't it?

    • yeah. it sounds good but i need to mess around with the strings. i only had d'addario's laying around and i dont really like them. i feel like the high string sounds too 'twangy' so i need to mess with it.

      • Nice build Rod. I especially like the headstock.

When you say 'twangy' as a bad thing, do you mean it's buzzing?  It's difficult to tell from the pic but if your strings are sitting 'flat' along the slots in the nut it could be causing them to buzz/not ring true.

        • its not buzzing. everything is correct on the instrument and that corrion is a really good bridge.

i changed the strings to a heavier guage. ive never liked the d'addario strings. just a personal thing.

a little background. im a long time guitar player. a year ago i had an accident at work and i cut more than 2/3 of my left ring finger off and my middle finger got ripped up the middle. im missing bone and all that.

i have nerve damage and a lot of pain and i absolutely can not play guitar anymore. i cant fret certain chords cause the missing finger and the tips of my nub and middle finger are so sensative i can not even fret the strings. thats why i figured i would make a diddley bow.

i can play with a slide but i never have so i figured i would use light strings and thats all i had laying around. just didnt like it. changed it to a heavier string and its better.

thanks for the good words. wait till you see the next one i build. its going to be sick. im going to cut it on a cnc
