Some regular 6 string players like them to be the same width as their existing guitar. Others, like Keni, like them a bit wider. One of my 6 stringers measures 5/16 at the 12th fret. That would be a rough starting point.
I prefer a wider space for fingerpicking. Measuring across from string to string is 1/2 inch. This includes the string width itself too. Although, using a standard guitar as a model, you might want the strings closer if you flatpick. Hope this helps. Enjoy your build, Keni Lee

Like the others have said, I use 1/2" for 3-string and 3/8" on my 4-stringers
Thanks for the help guys. This web site is one of the best things Ive come across
I put the middle of the three down the center of the neck, and then the others about 1/2 inch to either side. KISS principal, you know....
I make all mine 1/2" wide. Works for me and those who use my cbg's.
