About ready to string this up. I have one lipstick mag pickup at the neck position. I've used phosphor bronze strings on my other builds, but they all had piezo's. This has a gold theme, so I prefer to match the string color as well, but not at the expense of sound quality if indeed electric strings would be preferable

The aucostic strings will interrupt the magnetic field of the pickup and produce sound, however you may not like the sound. I once in an emergency used some aucostic strings on an electric guitar. It got the job done. But I didn't care for the quality of sound. Also, depending on how you build your git, aucostic strings are usually a bit thicker and will put more tension on your guitar.
If your guitar can take the tension, use the bronze phosphorus strings and see if you like the sound. If sounds good and look good, then you've got it made!
I guess it's personal choice - whether the steel core on the acoustics gives you enough volume with a magnetic pickup and whether you like the way it sounds.
Two different people have suggested to me I could do this, and one is a conventional luthier/repair/guitarist guy. One suggested it 'because it works', and the other suggested it for more acoustic volume. I told him I had nuthin' anybody needed to hear louder than before anyway.
All you have to lose is some time, and worst case, some strings. Maybe you could leave the strings uncut past the tuners so you could take them off if you don't like to waste a new set if you didn't like the results.
Glad you're almost there Brian I'd go for the electric strings with the mag pup but as Ron said the choice is your's try both and see that you like , good luck hope to hear it fired up soon .
Try both electric strings, and the p-bronzes, see which tone you prefer. The p-bronzes will work, as they have a steel core. You may want to adjust the pickup height up a tad to ensure they are really within the mag field.

Happy building!

The phosphor bronze will work, but they will sound very muddy, and you probably won't like it.
They work great for piezos because a piezo works solely off vibrations, not a magnetic field.
Use electric strings.
