OK I'm sure you've maybe heard better BUT after watching the build and then hearing this. It's amazing.. Sounds like a full guitar... DAMN.. There is HOPE for me... He starts playing at 4:15

Interesting. Although I haven't exactly been Mr. Purist when it comes to the blues tones and I've been known to distort my tin guitars especially, I'd almost rather hear something more primitive coming from a diddley, tone-wise. It's almost too genteel with that pickup and the effects. Dude can play the heck outta that thing, though.
I just re-built the one I made back in April today. You can really hear the apple pie filling can tone on that one now...really brings out the mids. And the highs. The icy, icy highs. The poking-an-icepick-in-your-eardrum highs. Can't wait for my sack of piezo disks from CBGitty to arrive this week....

Thatrs not a cheap pickup..they list for around 150 bucks in stew mac catalog, plus i`m sure there`s alot effects on the studio board.
You can also play an open note (the lowest note). Just lift the bar/slide and pick the string. I use this technique a lot.
hummmmm.. somethin aint right there .. if you notice at 5:10 his note is lower than the bar placed at a even lower spot at 516 .
hummm.
