After finishing my 6-string electric, I have a straight-wound pickup left over.    (Standard non-humbucking "Strat" pickup)
I want to use this in a four-string..... I see some of the guys angle the pickup so as to more-or-less align with the strings.

Necessary?   Or just install it "straight" and let the two outboard pole-pieces do what they will?

  • Either way will work. The tone will change a somewhat if you angle it compared to straight. When the pickup is near the neck, you get a bassier sound, when it's near the bridge, you get a treblier sound. Other than that, it's an aesthetic decsion.
