  • Hi Mungo,

I had similar thoughts a while a go when fitting a bridge magnetic PUP and found this on another site
    http://www.music-electronics-forum.com/t12315/
and this site where several people fitted the bridge angle the other way for a "better" sound
    http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=545858
I must admit on some of my builds I slanted the bridge PUP as per a strat only because I used an old strat pickguard to mark out the positions in relation to the neck and bridge.
Numerous other guitars have non-slanted PUPs so I guess like everything else it is down to personal preference in finding "The sound" you want.

    Regards,
    David
  • yes theres a couple of reasons for it First as you mentioned - if it's a six string pickup been used on a 3or 4 string the pickup poles are not aligned with the strings so you get a slightly quiter spot between the poles , having the pickup at a angle just about eliminates it

second reason is to alter tone on a six string - for instance Fender Stratocaster and Telecasters both have the Bridge pickups at a angle , depending at what point on the string length you have the pickup set alters the tone

    hope this helps

    juju :-)
