His style of playing is very nice..

So as a Beginner would a 3 string be better for someone who knows nothing about playing or trying old Gospel Songs like this or would a 4 stringer better?

If you can play like this guy, you can play anything....
3 stringers will have a more "open" sound with a lot of rawness....
4 stringers will have more filled in sound....
If you want the fullness that he's getting out of a CBG, build a six stringer reso CBG and hook it up to a good amp..... If you're looking for good bluesy slide action, 3 or 4 stringers will do....
Also check out the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. They've got a "Gospel Album" EP out, which is closed by an insturmental version of the Rev playing Amazing Grace on a resophonic guitar. Hauntingly beautiful. It's pretty simple, but that's good: it doesn't need to be complex to be powerful.

I teach a 3 string CBG version of Amazing Grace (tuned GDg)
Also I teach how to expand it out into a 6 string version in Vestapol (Open D) DADf#ad
You can also easily arrange this song for a 4 string CBG in Mini-Vestapol. (Df#ad)
Please feel free to write if you have any questions.
Enjoy.
I have built 2.. 1 4string slide for me and a build for another guy...3 string. So for the next project I wanta learning to play on guitar... My first build I want to keep and not beat up... It's a first build...
I can't say for Gospel songs, but most folks agree that a 3 string is easier to build and easier to play. I personally like 4 string CBGs but that's me. If you were to emulate the youtube player's style, I would go 4 string -- 3 for the melody/chord(s) and the lower one for the 'drone'.
Not being sarcastic, but build what you think you want to build.
