NEW THIS YEAR!!! - Learn to play 3 string cigar box guitar.

This is aimed at those players who have started to play 3 string cigar box guitar, but want to improve their technique and repertoire.  If you've developed bad habits I'll be able to identify them and help you "unlearn" them, or if ypou feel oyuve got stuck or stalled, I can help you move forward. I'll introduce you to the ideas of slide, chords, partial chords, bass runs and solo work. We'll cover the classic 12 bar blues format, and also introduce you to the one chord Hill Country style. I'll also introduce the idea of non-blues styles such as folk, country, Bahamian, reggae,  African sukous & highlife. I'll make sure you get the left hand position correct for fluid slide work, and get your right hand  working on a solid rhythmic drive.

If you haven't got a cigar box guitar, don't worry, I can provide instruments. If you are bringing your own guitar, we will be playing in a G-D-G tuning. I recommend 042, 032, 024 gauge strings, or something similar (the 5th, 4th and 3rd strings from a medium gauge set of strings will usually work OK). I also recommend using a fretted guitar, but if you have a fretless guitar, as long as the action is low enough to be able to hold down barre chords as well as as using a slide, it should be OK. Do bring a slide, but remember, I'll have a selection of excellent locally-made "Diamond" botlenecks for sale at special prices.

Learning in a small face-to-face group is by far the best way - I originally taught myself how to play slide, but only really progressed when I started going to workshops and lessons with some top-class players. Don't worry about being embarrassed about playing in front of other people - learning in a group is a supportive, comfortable environment.

The venue is literally on my home turf, in the leafy surroundings of Warley Woods, an 18th century listed landscape, designed by Humphry Repton.
