Cypress to me looks a lot like pine without the knots. But, I avoid it like the plague, mainly because I have respiratory problems and a lung disease, and cypress is one of those woods that can have severe reactions if the dust is breathed in. Of course you should be masked when cutting any wood, but we all know how that can go sometimes. It is used somewhat in the construction industry, but not to any great degree of use or demand. Mostly outside construction I believe.

To answer your question, I haven't been here very long myself, but haven't heard anyone using cypress, not saying it hasn't been tried, I imagine, mask properly, cut slow(known for tearout) maybe make a box with it, not sure about as a neck as it's a softwood, way down on the janka scale of hardness.

I know Spanish cypress is used in Flamenco guitars for sides and backs but it's probably not the same as the cypress you have in Louisiana. Could be a fun experiment though.

Give it a whirl. You could possibly laminate a neck vertically and get more strength.

If you don't like how it works out, I'll send you an address where you can get rid of the rest of the cypress. ;)
