5 years ago I tried and failed at building a CBG. Just last week saw the 2x4 lap steel and immediately thought "I can do that..", so here I go again.
The first one is going to be close to plan, with a couple refinements, an adjustable bridge, a fret marker experiment,, and the old hippie-dippy torched pine treatment with a flat or satin clearcoat, maybe distressed too.
The idea I had for the fret markers is to use either (or both) copper wire or heavy (.065-.080) colored weed wacker line, inlaid and sanded flat. Now add to that a chromatic scale with diatonic marked with different color/material. Might work, might not.
I'm already thinking about #2. I'm thinking that will be a 2X6, more surface area for switchplates, decoration, junk, whatever. Probably a humbucker, maybe a challenge coin inlay. Just an upgrade from the beater 2x4 model. What I don't like is square headstocks with tuners in line, so I just drew this up. Feedback please?
Lastly, I'd like feedback on this idea.... I work a little bit of leather, and thought of a big slab of leather on the bottom, rough side out, as kind of 'non-skid' while holding/playing.
Thoughts?
