In response to a discussion elsewhere I've just done a tutorial on reading standard notation. It applies to any instrument but the examples and fretboard maps are for a 3 stringer in G.
I know it's not everyone's thing but if your curious about reading, and it's really not that hard, you should find it useful. The video is around 30 minutes.
