Wiring for Stomp Box?

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.

I want to build a stomp box with peizo for some self-percussion but I want to have it in line with my CBG into the amp.

Does anyone know how to wire something like that?

Thanks!

  • Here's what i dug up so far. I am also going to post this on it's own thread in case someone else had the same question that I did:

I'll be putting one together here in the next few days. Here's to burnt fingers!

  • Not sure what venue your playing in but I just bought a 4 ch. mixer, cheep, and run the out to my amp.  Of course this is for home use practice only. In a club I would leave it up to the sound engineer.

    • I was thinking more along the lines of the purposes of busking. A giant drum would suck to carry around and so would a mixer.

I got myself a nice little Pignose HOG20 and with those batteries that's about all I want to carry around.

  • The build links for the ABY switch would be helpful.

  • Hmm... That seems pretty complicated for what I want to do but it looks like that would work.

I might try and make a simple y-splitter and see if I like that.

    Thanks for the reply!

    • The Y splitter would definitely work, but it also may (or may not) lower the output of your guitar. So you might want to run a clean boost after the Y splitter to regain your signal strength. Just a thought. That's why I like the idea of the aby switch. You can turn it off when you would like, but if you would be using it all the time anyway.... yeah just go with the splitter.

    • Hmm... I opened a few of my stomp box effect pedals and I couldn't really see what was going on with the signal chain. Then again, they just alter the signal not add to it. I guess if I had an old-school spring reverb pedal I would see what I am trying to do.

    • Another thought. My first build I made from a silverware box. The lid is about an inch and a half thick. Well anyway I don't have the lid held shut with anything it's just loose and when I tap my foot or lift my knee up the lid will kind of move and snap shut and the peizo picks this sound up. This might be the kind of effect that you are looking for. That way you wouldn't be wiring anything new to you besides however you normally like to wire your peizos.

  • You need an ABY switch. It won't be "in line" with your guitar, but actually parallel line that will meet your guitar signal. An ABY switch is easy to make, but one can also be bought. Morley makes an excellent one. It will have two inputs and one output. You just simply plug your guitar into one input, then the "stomp" box into the other. The output then goes to the amp. The morley ABY has switches on it, so if you wanted to you could shut off the stomp box side of the ABY. If you need links on how to build one I can provide them to you.
