Dear GB the peelings are grinded down to powder and this powder known as tan is used for tanning hides (Cowhides,Deerhides) and cotton used for sails on windmills sailing boats ! my deary ! maybee watch the video again it exspains it all !!
Mr Andries D. Eker, the storyteller of old nation town. I really enjoyed listening and learning about oak peeling. I never even considered that oak would need peeling. Out of interest, any idea what the peelings were used for? Was it turned into paper? Used for cladding houses? Craft work?
