  • Nice sounds..... The Mississippi State Penitentiary, commonly called Parchman Farm, was a nasty, hard labor prison. Some great blues men did hard time there; Bukka White (who wrote "Parchman Farm Blues"), and Son House. Folklorist Alan Lomax recorded White and others at the farm for the Library of Congress.
    One incorrect myth was that some prisoners did 5-10 year stretches for conviction of playing store-bought guitars on the Cigar Box Nation.
