I'm struggling with mine to get the right strings.... i'm told nylon strings so got some 7 string nylon banjo stings but they dont fit the nut so it cant be... plus it sounds far better with these guitar strings on as video...
anyone know what this should have on?
Nice, ive got an 1880s 6 string banjo... as far as i know they were generally open tuned - like normal banjos but with a couple of extra bass string. At the time there was a mixture of "stroke" style playing (early minstrel era clawhammer) or classical guitar style finger picking. Check out this guy Rob Mackillop from Edinburgh he specialises in these things.

Great sounding instrument. Nice playing too. I wish I was able to find things like that. Must be looking in the wrong places. Well done.
Very cool. Although, it sounds like it needs some work. Rather interesting. I guess it is intended to operate like a banjitar (6 string guitar with banjo head) plus the drone of a traditional 5 string banjo. I say you got a great unique find there. Enjoy. I would tune gDGDgbd if that baby was mine. Happy New Year. Enjoy.
