Pretty Saro

My family is from the Ozarks/Appalachians, so here's a very old tune of unrequited love from there... it's haunted me since I heard it almost 20 years ago on Martin Simpson's moving acoustic guitar album "When I Was on Horseback." His is better, but this was improvised from the traditional melody on 3-string (GDg). I'll tab it out and post soon.P.S. My camera died during recording, so here's a pic I took from the lonesome valley I live in. -BenBob

  • Thanks Alan,

Heh, I watched this sad tune again and remembered that I took this photo on "Happy Canyon Road" lol.

  • Ben Bob, with all due respect I must disagree with you.

They just played Simpson's "Pretty Saro; Long Steel Rail" on the radio and I liked yours MUCH better. Though I did say to Becky while we were listening "I think I know that piece..."

  • Hi Alan, here's the tab for this one:

  • Hey BenBob! Just putting the final touches on a 3-string slide guitar (photos soon). Have you tabbed this out yet? I would most surely like to play this on my CBG.
  • thats great, nice one:0)
  • Lovely, Great stuff to learn on a sunday mornin...............or any morning!
  • Thanks man! I saw him more years ago than I wish to admit, but it was early 90s. We were disappointed because we expected Irish/Brit folk fingerstyle stuff and he came in playing bottleneck and singing blues. Good to see he's still doing both!
  • For those who love BenBobs song..heres something to study sounds great with headphone!

  • Thanks Ben, for the tabs.
