New Kickdrum in mrbangham's Junk Pile

***Disclaimer: The drum just sounds kinda dull when the video is played on equipment with small speakers or when using headphones. To hear the lows the drum puts out you will need some power and big enough speakers to move some air. The lows can be pretty intense through big stereo speakers with a subwoofer.***This started out as a project to mic the suitcase kick drum I’ve been fooling with. I put a piezo disk in the suitcase and then a small speaker, but neither worked very well. An Internet search showed how to build something called a subkick, so based on that I hooked this old speaker up to my amp and set it about six inches from the suitcase to act as a microphone. It worked pretty well so I ran it through a Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ and tuned it in even more. Then I decided to try hitting the speaker with the drum pedal. This may be just what I’ve been looking for.

  • I could add a small onboard buffer and preamp to them so they wouldn't feed back. Hmmm....  Back to the basement

  • You could put disk piezos in wooden clogs and stomp about...
