Yep. Good explanations. I do a lot of this kind of stuff on both 3 and 4 strings, but I do it with a combination of shapes and sounds to get me there. If I find a shape-sound combo I like, I end up using it, mixing it with some of the standard blues power chords. Gives a jazzy, occasionally urban or Middle Eastern feel to things.
