    I think they are both very cool peter...........try and put the pickup at an  angle.  sometimes it will line up better......

    Neat materials and shape.   Interesting and too common that the tail piece failed to line up with the pickup.   I like that second one.  

    I've heard gum wood described as poor man's walnut.  Stained it looks much like walnut.
