Can you name the tune?I made this fiddle in about 3 hours on a snowy afternoon. It was briefly a 3 string. This video was done in my first hour learning to play it as a 2 string.I have pencil marks for the 2 and 4th frets. The scale is 17 inches (viola scale). Tuning is DG using the used A and D string from an electric guitar.I think the bow is pretty crappy.I can already see the need for a cutout where I bow because it is easy to bow into the box. This thing is a bit hard to hold, fun and frustrating. Within 5 minutes of play, our home was free of mice and vermin. (Present company excepted). Thanks to Matt and Dave for putting me in the mood to try this.

Joe, I usually take 6-8 hours even for a basic and rustic build. This was a quickie using a 2x4 for the neck. It is kind of like a prototype. It plays pretty well, but cutouts for bowing would help. I may try to learn from this one and build a better one some time.
I missed this one, guess I’m not used to seeing you without hair! Your a splitting image of the great violinist Niccolo Paganini! You sir have the bow down! Not the bow, the bow! This reminds me of a guy upstairs learning and practicing a trumpet everyday for about two months. He has stopped, or has givin up, or was shot, don’t know! Not to say this wasn’t amazing Uncle in the time frame you mentioned. I believe the tune is Cat Scratch Fever in D! Uncle, thanks for the humor, this was really pretty amazing from project start to finish!

Three hours! Man do I over analyze my builds! I should catch a bit of that! Thanks for sharing.
Richard, I am glad that you notice my resemblance to Niccolo. Yup, I can bow as in bow wow. I am enjoying the fiddle and I think I am improving some.
