Just a test of my different cigar box guitars on a homemade amp. The amp has the gain up just a little.I got the amp kit for my birthday and just thought I'd try the guitars out before I gave some away for Christmas presents.

  • dg. Main thing is the box I think - the oak neck ones are made from a more solid box. I think the neck probably makes a difference too. The other thing is the position of the Piezo's on the acorn and 2 string there's a gap between the neck and the piezo, wheras on the later ones I sandwiched the piezo tight between the neck and box which helps a lot. You live and learn!
  • curious if you can pin point what makes each one differnent, scale, peizo, wood grade, ?????? i think its neat how you get wide range of distortion sounds from the same amp. I cant build an amp, wish I could.

  • ah right, I've used an MA3s amp module from guitar fuel...yeah they're stuff is very good!
  • Thanks bemuzic, I believe it was the sda kit http://www.guitarfuel.com/SDAT_Amp_Harness_BSLN.php it came with speaker etc. from ebay. I provided my own cigar box and drilled it etc. I was surprised at how good it sounds, well worth checking out.

  • some cool builds......and the amp sounds good, what kit was it you used?

  • Interesting stuff.
  • I've managed to solve the sound problem with bartop blue mk II, I've screwed the box down a bit more and it's far more growling now.  Just in case anyone was interested why they're called Bar Top Blues - the neck is made from an old Mahogony bar from an RAF bar.
