Thanks eK, and everyone else for your positive feedback. It does have a kinda dark hybrid acoutic-electric sound. Sounds good with the tone wound off too for an all-bottom-end dub sound. The strings are Pyramid. I've never used flatwounds before (they are expensive!) but Steve had these lying around. They feel extra smooth and sexy, like a snake! It would brighten up a lot with roundwounds on it but for what Steve wanted, these are perfect. Also, especially on the A string you can get a very double-bass type sound. The E string is a bit dark for that. As usual, you can't have everything. It would be pretty useless for funk, but being only a 2 string there aren't many funk lines you could play on it anyway.
Ahhh...tone! Nice and meaty almost upright bass sound. Seems like an instrument that would really respond to somebody digging into it with either a pick or their fingers. (Like the sound of those flats too whatever they are. D'Addarios possibly?) This would be a very nice box to use for jazz, rock, or blues.
Ha! Yes Uncle J, in all my vids the pics match the instrument you are hearing. It's a nice bass, but I think the Book Bass humbuckers sound better. Steve wants to use this for dub style, so asked to put the pickups well forward. I would have liked them a bit back from there but he wanted a really deep, dubby sound. So that's what he got. He's known here for having that kind of old-school sound. Also he wanted flatwounds on it and they are very dark. It will do exactly what he expects. One day I'll make a bass that does that Barney Miller sound and I'll be happy.

Well done!
Man, it sounds fantastic then - as well as being one of the prettiest gits ever.
