had a quick look online and it looks a bit like a Kora, or Bolon??

  • It's a big laddle with strings.

  • Looks very much to me like a bolon. And one of the more modern versions too. The traditional instrument had 3 strings. But the young-uns' are doing 4 and 5 string models now. It's also called an "African Harp." Several places on the web sell them.

    Usually it's made from a gourd topped with a calf or a goat skin head. Strings can be made of gut, silk, wire, or whatever else is handy that makes a decent enough sound.

    Very cool instrument. Like those little shells too. Nice bit o' bling that is!

    IIRC there used to be a video or two up on YouTube showing it being played. If I can find them I'll post the links.
  • It's a Banjo on drugs. Really though, it looks and sounds pretty neat Be. You should be able to figure out how to make music on it.
