CBG players: Consider adding a bit of harp to your bag of tricks. Here are 3 cross harp chords to compliment 3 chords on a CBG (or other instruments).This lesson is for beginner cross harp players. I hope it can get you started with near instant gratification.I chord: Draw (suck) and blow the 1 & 2 holesIV chord: draw and blow the 3 4 and 5 holesV chord: draw and blow the 4, 5, 6 holesWhat harp for cross harp? Count to 4.Key of A- count A (1), B (2), C (3), D (4) – use a D harp for the key of A.Below will be the key – the key of harp and the what the letter name for the 3 chords are. The 3 chords listed will also be the I, IV and V chords.Key A = D harp. Chords are A, D and EKey C = F harp Chords are C, F and GKey D = G harp Chords are D, G and AKey E = A harp Chords are E, A and BKey G = C harp Chords are G, C and D.Get a harp to match the key you most like to play guitar (or other instrument) in. I play most in G (Gdg) and use a C harp for a cross harp.Practice will help you find the right spots with your mouth. If you are off a little just adjust on the fly. Learn this and you can at the least make some good complimentary sounds.I call this chord style honking on harp.

Get on the 3 hole and draw while kind of saying suuWEEEET. If that alone does not work, kind vary the speed of the draw breath.

Rob, I am mostly a straight harp player. Good thing for a straight harp player to know- when playing cross harp and the guitar is on the IV chord - just for that chord, the harp is essentially playing straight harp.
I've played straight harp along with some gospel songs I've played at church.

Great lesson , Uncle John ! I didn't understand the chord progression used when cross harping with guitar. You explained it simply enough that even I can understand ! Got out my great grandfather's harp and worked at it. Needs more work ! ha! ha! Now I need to find something to hold the harp when I play . Thanks !
