slide and frets compromise?

Hi. I'm new to this so please forgive the stoopid question. My first build is pretty cool BUT tends to play sharp when I am fretting a string. I don't want to bring the action down too far cos then it will be too low for slide. What's a good compromise. Any actual measurements of string height at nut and bridge? Thanks guys!

  • Thanks for the advice. Obviously moving the bridge isn't an option because the intonation will be way out. But good to have some measurements as a guide, ta.
  • With a bit of practice and heavy enough strings, you'll find that you can go pretty low with the action, particularly at the nut. As you are finding, too high an action will pull the notes sharp when fretting. On a lot of my guitars set for slide and fretting, the action is hardly higher than for fretted only playing..I've just checked one and it's showing 1/32" at the first fret and 1/16" at the 12th, and is good for fretted and slide playing using fairly high tension strings.
