I am trying to use a lap slide on four string cbg, and i get the noise of the slide moving over the round wound strings. The strings are D'Addario 0.012 tuned to e0.016 tuned to c0.024 tuned to a0.032 tuned to gAny ideas?
hi Wade & ChickenboneJohn.
Thanks I changed the slide I was using from a 1/4 inch diameter steel bar to an inch diameter glass sample bottle. What a difference all I need now is to learn a few good blues tunes.
I have a few bottleneck slides that pickup more string noise than others because of the surface and even the seam on bottleneck slide will add to string noise. The smoother the surface of the slide the better.
Hi ChickenboneJohn.
I am playing in a lap position using 1/4inch diam steel bar for slide.
My pickup is a piezo under the bridge. I get the noise without the amp being connected. I do damp behind strings but being new to slide it could be technique.
What pickup and what slide are you using? I'm wondering if these are contributing to any extraneous noises..or maybe it's your technique - are you damping the strings behind the slide with a finger to kill the overtones & buzzes? That really helps get a clean, clear sound.
Roundwound strings are the norm for slide playing and unwanted sound from the strings themselves shouldn't really be an issue. You definitely DON'T want to change to flatwound or tapewound strings, that will just deaden the sound.
