Harp G minor in the second position

Hi

I recently bought a new harp and its a G minor as I have heard minor scale can sound great

It says its in the second position tuning.

Can anyone advise me how that works and what chords or notes I can play to it on my CBG

as I normally play in open D,AEA or G..

Does anyone know what are the minor chords for 3 and 4 string CBG?

Your help is appreciated

Mr Bug

  • John I bought the 2 keys I play in, open d and g so Gm and Cm...let's see what I can do,

its sounds kinda regae ish to me.. a chap at cambridge played his harp in the back room and he was awesome

he said he was using a cm but it sounded soooo sweeet,.. I think Bemuzic knows him?

I would like to track him down to show you his playing..

  • Hunh.  That sounds real minor bluesy.   Cool.  I may have to try a minor harp some time.   Good deal, Bug.

  • The chord picture off this kinda help:

  • very quick test John about 5 min ago

  • Thanks John this was great just a had a v quick go and it works in open d but as you add add little finger on the last string 3 notes (from memory) further up to get the minor chords.

  • Lots of ways to play minor chords, Bug.  Richey Kay posted an excellent moveable chord shapes for GDG that shows some minor chords.

One way would be to tune your GDG git to GDA# and you would have an open Gm, Cm at the 5th and Dm at the s 7th.   I think.  I am looking at Richey's chord chart and messing with a GDG.  Seems to work well.

Or pretty much do the same thing with a DAD git.  Tune it DAF.    Should give you a Dm open, a Gm at the 5th and an Am at the 7th.   I do not understand minor key harps, but this seems worth a try for playing with your new harp.

I've done minor key songs in the past on a DGB guitar - easy to make an Em, and Am and not too hard to do the Dm for key of Am songs like One Kind Favor and St. James infirmary.    I like that tuning.   Very easy finger chords in the key of G.  Not bad in C.   Look at a standard six (EADGBE - Eat At Dave's.  Get Better Eats'.) chord chart and then just use the DGB portion of the chart.

Also, I think you will do better on the minor key songs if you put beans in your ears, chopstick in your nose - not too deep, and put your shoes on the wrong feet.  It works for me.
