eBay just removed 2 of my CBG's that were supposedly made from Cuban Cigar Boxes due to a trade embargo. I purchased the boxes on EBay. I don't see any made in Cuba on the boxes. Anyone else have this problem? My description says nothing about Cuba in it, just Used Cigar Boxes!
As for Cuban cigars in USA...as well as smuggled cigars, there are plenty of counterfeit "Cuban" cigars too...both smuggling and fakes are big business. I've even had a fake "Cuban" Cohiba box...a very good copy, but a copy nonetheless..the counterfeiters make cheap cigars, with fake bands, put 'em in fake boxes with fake seals and sell them at an attractive discount off the price of say $500 a box of real Havanas... so for example they might offer them half price...and they'll make $200 on a box of knock-off cigars..multiply this by thousands and you can see it's big business.
Judas Priest - Breaking The Law Sometimes, tossing tea in the bay or smoking illegal stogies is being a patriot. It gave Judas Priest material for a song. All I can say to those using eBay, is to be careful while typing in the "B" do not accidentally type in "G".
I was stating that just by going on Ebay and searching for Habanos Boxes there are thousands for sale, as singles as well as box lots. Ebay even took off one of my Nicaragua boxes at the same time. Nicaragua sanctions ended in 1990. Oh well, I'll sell both this afternoon at the art fair. I only have 1 more Habanos box and I will do the same, sell this forbidden fruit to a law breaking US Citizen. Thanks for all your input. I wasn't aware, and never thought of the BOX as contraband also. Still there seems to be a lot of illegal cigars being sold in the US by all of the Boxes.
Wayfinder..eBay has its many faults, I won't dispute that, but it's not the issue here (neither are Amazon's tax evasion strategies..you're right, they're not perfect either). In the USA, Cuban products are illegal, it really is as simple as that. Amazon also won't sell Cuban products because they are bound by US law, and I'm sure if you tried selling Cuban goods or Cuban-derived articles such as a cigar box guitar, they'd also take it off sale. No USA-based company is going to trade in illegal goods if it wants to stay in business and avoid getting into trouble.
John Dill..don't worry, you're not the only one they singled out..I rarely trade on eBay these days, but I've had CBGs made with Cuban boxes taken off sale by eBay in the past. Also, a lot of cigars these days have "Cuba" in their name or trade styling, to trade on the prestige and reputation of traditional Cuban cigars, but they are made in Nicaragua or Honduras.
Thanks for the information. I was just shocked they singled little ole me out. I just did a search on EBay on Habanos Cigar boxes and found 677 in just one search. I guess I should feel honored. I hate taking off the stickers as I like original boxes. Luckily I only have 1 more of these out of the 50+ boxes I have. I will look closer. Should be able to sell it at this weeks upcoming art fair if listed as "Illegal Cuban Contraband"! Again thanks for your info. This makes CBG building a little more mysterious now! Will I go to jail if I use this or that box?
It's not eBay's fault, they are sticking to the letter of US law, and it's not a glitch, it's eBay policy: as a US-based company they are bound by US law. The problem is the US government's continuing embargo against anything Cuban..anything except pre-revolution items. After all, re-cycling a communist-produced empty wooden box is a serious and real threat to the political and economic stability of the most powerful country in the world. And by the way...that Habanos corner flash sticker, together with the green and white "Sello de Garantia"', that's the official Cuban government proof of authenticity for Cuban cigars.
Anyone in the USA selling cigar box guitars made from a Cuban box is breaking the law!

It says Habana, made in Habana Cuba. Cigar Box was purchased off of EBay. It contains no tobacco products.
